We both grew up traveling to Deer Isle with our families in the summer and have vacationed together in Brooksville over the past four years. We've created so many special memories all across the beautiful Blue Hill Peninsula.
Here is a list of some of our favorite spots and things to do in the area. We anticipate that our guests will be scattered across the peninsula, so some of these places will be across the street and others an hour drive from where you're staying.
Food & Drink
El El Frijoles
Mexican food in rural Maine? Surprising, delicious and at the top of our list.
Roaring Lion Farm & Market
Breakfast sandwiches and lunch made from amazing, extremely local products.
Blue Hill Co-Op
Cute grocery store that provides all the essentials and quick lunches.
LDI Lobster and Fish Net
If you are looking for a lobster roll, these are our two favorite spots.
LDI overlooks the Deer Isle Bridge. Fish Net is right in Blue Hill.
Bucklyn Coffee and 44 North Coffee
Excellent coffee and small pastries.
Bucklyn is in Blue Hill. 44 North is in Deer Isle Town and Stonington.
Blue Hill Wine Shop
Amazing wine selection, specialty grocery and counter-service cheese.
Yellow Birch Farm
Great little farm stand with fresh produce, goat cheese and pottery.
Tinder Hearth
We are hosting our rehearsal dinner and welcome party here! If you missed it, or really loved it, check out their breakfast on Saturday morning.
The Pub at Pentagoet Inn
Some of you might be staying here in Castine! They have a great restaurant and back porch.
Places to Go
Maker's Market Shop & Studio
Local jewelry, art and groceries. Next to El El Frijoles!
47 Caterpillar Hill Rd, Sargentville, ME 04673
Stonington
A great town to spend the afternoon! We like to walk along the coast, shop and grab an ice cream cone or coffee. The granite industry is a key part of Stonington's history and heritage, and we recommend checking out the granite museum in town. There's parking all along Main St and a parking lot by Stonecutters Kitchen.
Blue Hill Books
A cozy local bookstore!
26 Pleasant St, Blue Hill, ME 04614.
Compass Rose Books
Castine's small, neighborhood bookstore the celebrates local authors. Grab a coffee at the coffee bar!
Nervous Nellie's Jams & Jellies
An eclectic sculpture park using repurposed materials to build whimsical scenes, castles, saloons and more!
Oh, and they also sell jams and jellies.
598 Sunshine Rd, Deer Isle, ME 04627
The Great Outdoors
Sand Beach
The sandiest beach you can find on the rocky coast of Maine. Swim, picnic and scamper on the rocks.
The address is 118 Sand Beach Rd, Stonington, ME 04681.
Barred Island Preserve
A lush, green forest hike that wanders to the coast with island access at low tide.
More information here. The parking lot address is Goose Cove Rd, Deer Isle, ME 04627.
Lookout Rock Trail aka "the blue dot trail"
Kaitlyn's family grew up hiking this short path up to a great view of Eggemoggin Reach and the Penobscot Bay.
The trailhead is at 10 Robin Hood Rd, Sargentville, ME 04673.
Kayak Rentals
If you are staying in Maine for a little longer — and feel comfortable paddling in choppy ocean water — we recommend renting kayaks. You might see seals and porpoises! Castine Kayak Adventures and Stonington Paddle are two kayak rental companies.
